This past week I visited the Guggenheim New York retrospective show of Louise Borgeois. I have always respected her work, but now I love it even more. It was very inspirational and wonderful to see in person. I purchased the show catalog, it is unusual because it is an A-Z writings by and of the work of Bourgeois. I love it and want to read it front to cover.
One section that I connected with this morning is:
Anxiety:
"It's the anxiety that is then transformed into something specific, as specific as a drawing. Then you have access to it, you can deal with it, because it has gone from unconscious to the conscious, which is fear. So my work is really based on the elimination of fears."
Interview with Cecilia Blomberg, Oct. 16, 1998
"The work is completed when the anxiety has disappeared. That is the proof of it's success." Interview with David Klugman, Jan. 19, 1992
